In an effort to bolster their starting rotation, the Yankees re-signed veteran left-handed pitcher J. A. Happ to a reported two-year, $34 million contract with a $17-million vesting option for a third season in 2021. The 36-year-old was acquired by New York from the Toronto Blue Jays this past July, after which he posted a win-loss record of 7-0 to go along with a 2.69 earned run average. He proved particularly effective against the rival Boston Red Sox, as he registered a 1.99 ERA against the team during four starts last season.
